Burials 1877-1880

Aaron Johnson was born 22 June 1806, died 10 May 1877 and was buried 11 May 1877. 

At his funeral service Brothers William Kelsey, Thomas Child, William Bromley, William Bramhall, F. C. Boyer and Bishop William Bringhurst spoke. 

He was a bishop who died at 71 years, 10 months, 18 days.




Asenith Curtis was born 22 February 1840, died 26 May 1878 and was buried 26 May 1878. 

She is the wife of Simmons Philander Curtis. Asenith died at 2 a.m. and was buried at 6 p.m. on 26 May 1878.








Lucy Celestia Morgan Wordsworth was born 6 March 1876, died 10 June 1878 and was buried on 11 June 1878. She is the daughter of William and Ellen Griffiths Wordsworth. Lucy died of drowning.



Tabitha Ann Wheeler was born 29 January 1878, died 23 August 1878 and was buried 24 August 1878. She is the daughter of Walter and Ellen Maria Child Wheeler.



Deseret Holdaway was buried on 1 October 1878.





Daniel Wood, known as Father Wood, was born on 27 June 1798, died 13 October 1878 and was buried 14 October 1878 at 11:00 a.m.

At his funeral service, Z. Coltrin and Lewis made appropriate remarks.

                                       Daniel is the step father to Amos Warren.




Richard Roylance was born 4 February 1874, died 15 May 1879. He died from choking. Richard is the son of Henry and Elizabeth Bell Roylance.






 Aseph Blanchard was born 3 October 1800, died 23 September 1879 and buried 25 September 1879. He struggled to breath and died at 8:00 p.m.

Funeral remarks were made by President William H. Bromley of the high priest quorum, and William H. Kelsey. Each testified to the faithfulness and integrity to the work of God. He was a good man. Came in an early day.





Arthur E. Sanford was born 5 September 1879, died 27 September 1879. He was also buried on 27 September 1879 a little before sundown. J. M. Clement's journal states his father is Farmer Sanford. The Utah State Burial records state his mother is Jane Cloward. [This may be an error.]




Martin V. Diamond was born 18 June 1873, died 26 September 1879 being run over by a wagon. He was buried 28 September 1879. Martin's parents are James and Spicer Ann Burton Diamond.

The child fell out of a wagon of potatoes--the front wheel passing over him. He lived just two hours after. Buried in the evening.





Emma Voyce was born 10 September 1876, died 19 November 1879 and buried 21 November 1879. Her parents are Alfred and Laura Fifield Voyce.



Mary Alice Groesbeck was born 10 November 1879, died 11 December 1879 and buried 21 November 1879. The graveside had 8 inches of snow. Mary's parents are Nicholas O. and Rosette Scovil Groesbeck.



Theo June Hall was born 24 June 1875, died 22 December 1879 and buried 23 December 1879. He was 4 and 1/2 years old. He is the son of George Washington and Mary Voletta Norley Hall.



Ernest Chester Blackett was born 21 November 1873, died 6 January 1880 and buried 7 January 1880. His parents are John William and Elizabeth Averett Blackett.



Abraham Cooper was born 28 September 1848, died 6 January 1880 and buried on 7 January 1880. His wife is Sarah Williams Cooper.



Elizabeth Adamson Wright [a widow] was born 12 March 1798, died 19 March 1880 and buried 20 March 1880. Snow in the graveyard was one foot deep. Her husband is James L. Wright.




William Warthen was born 2 October 1851, died 1 April 1880 and buried 
3 April 1880. His wife is Grace Shearer Warthen.



Swens Magnus Swenson was born 3 September 1837, died 4 April 1880 and buried 6 April 1880. His wife is Kjerstin Magnusson Swenson.











Simmons Philander Curtis was born 26 March 1818, died 10 April 1880 and buried 12 April 1880 at 5:00 p.m. Simmons died in bed. The coroner's report showed he died of heart disease.





John Tuckett was born 11 May 1880, died 15 May 1880 and buried 16 May 1880. He is the son of Joseph and Margaret Isaac Tuckett. John shares his headstone with three of his siblings.



John E. Dallin, Jr. was born 7 June 1854, died 16 May 1880 and buried 18 May 1880.










Henry Wheelan was born 15 January 1841, died 16 May 1800 and buried 19 May 1880. Henry had been living in California. Came here [Springville, Utah] for his health. He was an artist by profession.




Daniel Z. Thomas was born 9 July 1819, died 23 June 1880 and buried 27 June 1880.  D. Z. Thomas was brought from Payson to be buried in Springville per his request. He was a good man and faithful.

Choirs of Payson and Spanish Fork were present. The services were conducted by Brother George Hancock of Payson. Brothers Edwards of Goshen, Lewis of Spanish Fork and Bishop Bringhurst of Springville making suitable remarks.



Mary Stanisforth Watt was born 27 November 1801, died 3 July 1880 and buried 5 July 1880.




Elizabeth Thompson Loynd was born 27 November 1801, died 22 July 1880 and buried 24 July 1880 at 6:00 p.m. She was age 70 and is the wife of James Loynd.

Philo Dibble made remarks about the resurrection.











James H. Oakley, Jr. was born 25 August 1852, died 30 July 1880 and buried 31 July 1880 at 12:00 noon. James shot himself accidentally.





Child of Esli Stewart died between 30 July 1880 and 10 August 1880. John Moon Clements made remarks at the funeral.


Eleanor [Ellen] Spender Sumsion was born 15 May 1816, died 10 August 1880 and buried 12 August 1880. Ellen had a lingering sickness which lasted two years. She is the wife of Daniel Sumsion.

Her funeral services were held at the Daniel Sumsion home. Brothers C.D. Evans, William H. Kelsey and Bishop William Bringhurst made remarks. Brother William Bramhall dedicated the body and grave. F. C. Boyer opened with prayer. A choir sang at the house and at the graveyard.



George Burch was born 5 November 1819, died 17 September 1880 and buried 19 September 1880.
